FORMER SECRETARIES OF DEFENSE RAISE THE ALARM ON ADMINISTRATION’S ILLEGAL TERMINATIONS

Cellphone use: pinch and zoom

On February 27, 2025, former Secretaries of Defense, one of whom is Four-Star General James N. Mattis, raised their concerns in a letter to Congress about President Trump’s abuse of power in wanting to politicize the United States military. The former Secretaries of Defense urged Congress to uphold their duties by acting on their legislative powers to check the executive branch.

They issued a dire warning by iterating:

As George Washington warned Alexander Hamilton in 1783, after Hamilton had pressed military officers to insert themselves into domestic politics, “The Army is a dangerous instrument to play with.”

This is not President Trump's first attempt to politicize the U.S. military. During his first term as President, Trump implemented the Transgender Military Ban, proposed deploying active-duty military personnel to respond to civil unrest during protests against racial injustice in 2020 through the Insurrection Act, intervened in military justice cases by pardoning or reinstating service members accused or convicted of war crimes, and in 2019, President Trump’s July 4th celebration “Salute to America” was a grandiose display of military that paralleled nationalist parades in North Korea, China, and Russia.

President Trump’s Vision of Gaza Posted to Truth Social

February 25, 2025, President Trump took to Truth Social to post an AI-generated video of his vision after proposing the Gaza Strip be turned into a “riviera.”

Earlier in February, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the White House and sat down with President Trump to discuss the course of policy in the Middle East. During a press briefing shortly after the meeting, President Trump answered a question stating:

We have an opportunity to do something that could be phenomenal. And I don't want to be cute. I don't want to be a wise guy. But the Riviera of the Middle East, this could be something that could be so —This could be so magnificent. But more importantly than that is the people that have been absolutely destroyed that live there now can live in peace in a much better situation because they are living in hell. And those people will now be able to live in peace. We'll make sure that it's done world class. It will be wonderful for the people. Palestinians, Palestinians mostly we're talking about. And I have a feeling that despite them saying no, I have a feeling that the king in Jordan and that the general president but that the general in Egypt will open their hearts and will give us the kind of land that we need to get this done, and people can live in harmony and in peace.

Tensions remain high during the fragile cease-fire agreement as Israel and Hamas continue to negotiate hostage and prisoner exchanges.

Developing: The reality of GOP house budget bill

H. Con. Res. 14, AKA The ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ has made its way through the House and moves to the Senate floor—the outcome of H. Con. Res. 14 will devastate the United States economy and, more importantly, its people.

Who does this affect? The middle-class and low-income households will foot the bill in exchange for tax breaks for corporations and wealthy households. Every government program the American people rely on daily will be slashed and/or gutted to cover those expenses. As a reminder, 80 million Americans rely on Medicaid, and the bill lays out its demise.

H. Con. Res. 14 proposes a $4.5 trillion tax cut and a $2 trillion spending cut despite immense opposition from the Democratic Party. Congressman Schweikert has been beating the drum on this issue on the House floor for some time to relay the message that even if DOGE or Republicans want to gut the government, it will not solve the growing debt of the United States. With these tax provisions extending on the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), we move closer toward Congressman Schweikert’s fear of debt exceeding GDP by 155 percent, with annual interest payments surpassing $2 trillion.

However, it should be noted that a lot of economic knowledge comes from somebody who voted in favor of this bill.
